In 1987, Rabbi David Darshan zt”l of Tzfat saw a need that cried out to be addressed. Children from impoverished families, with parents severely handicapped by physical or mental illness, had no place in the school system. Rabbi Darshan saw an opportunity to support Israel in a niche of critical need.
The educational institutions existing at the time looked at the children and saw disheveled clothing, no parental support, and poor scholastic habits. “Your place is not with us,” they said. “We can’t help you.”
Rabbi Darshan looked at the children and saw great potential, if only given a chance, and beautiful Neshamot crying out silently for help and love. “We’re going to help you,” he decided. “We’re going to create a place for you.”
With the encouragement and support of Rav Chaim Kanievsky, Tzedakah V’Chesed Institutions was founded.
Tzedakah V’Chesed’s Mission:
- To accept every child, regardless of his or his family’s economic, educational, emotional or physical situation.
- To provide each child with a good education in a loving, supportive, safe environment.
- To supply all physical and educational needs when a child’s parents are unable to do so.
- To see every child as an entire world unto themselves, and give them the space and support to find themselves and realize their potential.
Rabbi David Darshan zt”l devoted himself to the children of Tzedakah V’Chesed until he died at the age of 52, after a seven year struggle with cancer. Throughout his illness, his foremost concern remained “his” children.
Continuing in Rabbi David Darshan’s footsteps is his eldest son, Rabbi Israel Darshan. Tzedakah V’Chesed continues to welcome disadvantaged children with open arms, providing them with everything they need to grow into happy, functional, stable adults. Supporting TVC is your way to support Israel.
